Find My Device Gets Real-Time People Tracking from Google

The new Find My Device app from Google enables users see the real-time positions of friends and family who share their location. 9to5Google reports that this update builds on the Android March feature drop and is rolling out to more people.

One Map, Two Goals
Previous versions of Google Maps enabled friends and family to share locations. The Find My Device software now tracks devices and people in one location, making it more easy. The iOS app reveals friends’ whereabouts via Google Maps, increasing cross-platform awareness.

Android Find My Device has a new “People” tab. Tapping this tab shows contacts’ shared places. Another tab displays the persons you’re sharing your location with and lets you choose how long.

Inspired by Apple
With this upgrade, Google’s Find My Device app UI mimics Apple’s. The new design has a split-screen look with a map on top and a list of people or devices below, depending on the tab. This arrangement simplifies tracking missing gadgets and loved ones.

This upgrade makes Find My Device a platform for personal location sharing and monitoring, not only for misplaced phones or devices.
