Post-2032 Olympics Demolition of Australia’s Iconic Cricket Stadium

Brisbane will host the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games at a modern 63,000-seater Victoria Park stadium. The Gabba, Australia’s most famous cricket venue, will be dismantled after the world tournament.

The 2032 Olympics’ opening and closing ceremonies and athletics will be held in the rebuilt stadium. This will be Brisbane’s main cricket stadium, replacing the Gabba, which has hosted Australian cricket for over a century.

The Gabba was demolished after a 100-day Games planning assessment. Despite original intentions to renovate the historic stadium, the evaluation found that the Gabba was no longer suited for contemporary sports.

“The Gabba is dying. Crisafulli said it hasn’t been effectively maintained, and we need a stadium to hold this wonderful event and legacy play.

Before its destruction, the Gabba hosted cricket. Premier Crisafulli even suggested the Gabba hosting cricket at the 2032 Olympics if it is kept after the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

Winning gold in an Olympic final for the Australian cricket team would be great. The Gabba’s goodbye, he said.

Queensland Cricket CEO Terry Svenson supports the ideas, citing the Gabba’s significance and the necessity for a contemporary facility. “The Gabba has been a wonderful venue, but its challenges are well documented,” Svenson remarked.

The 2032 Games’ infrastructure makeover includes the new stadium. A 25,000-seater national aquatic center will be erected at Spring Hill, and a 20,000-seat arena near the athletes’ village.

Rowing will take place in Queensland’s Fitzroy River, home to saltwater crocodiles. However, the administration claims the waters are safe. “If it’s good enough for central Queensland kids, I reckon it’s good enough for Pierre from Paris,” Crisafulli said.

The Gabba has held 67 men’s and two women’s Tests since 1931. Perth has sometimes started Australian Test seasons, but it was the regular beginning location.

The Gabba will host a day-night Test against England in the 2025-26 Ashes series, but its future is questionable. It may host further Tests and white-ball matches before its destruction, but its cricketing days are numbered.
