A Detachable Webcam and No Touchpad Laptop Won a Design Award.
An unnamed Chinese business, Emdoor Digital Technology, released the xCaim laptop, a 2025 iF Design Award-winning prototype. This laptop features an unusual webcam and no touchpad.
Emdoor will install a Samsung V-NAND SSD 980 in the xCaim, in capacities from 250 GB to 1 TB. Like the Honor MagicBook Art 14 (2024), the xCaim has a magnetic, modular webcam above the display. This camera detects real-time environmental data and displays shortcuts and alerts like a heads-up display when removed.
A touch-sensitive region replaces the function keys on the chiclet-style xCaim keyboard. System status, call details, and battery readings are shown on a tiny horizontal display below the keyboard. The bottom panel removes to show two cooling fans. The gadget has tiny bezels, a basic white-and-black color scheme, and three USB-C ports—two on the right and one on the left.
Emdoor uses AI-driven interactions, modular components, and a simplified design to change laptops. The xCaim’s design implies that manufacturers may experiment with similar ideas to create more flexible business notebooks.
The xCaim was chosen from roughly 11,000 submissions from 66 nations, according to iFDesign. Its design and interaction approaches were praised by 131 jurors from 23 countries, opening up laptop development.
