New TikTok tool improves account security
TikTok has strengthened security despite concerns about its long-term sustainability, notably in the US. The platform featured “Security Checkup,” a single management panel to secure user accounts.
This feature centralizes important security measures under the app’s “Settings and Privacy” and “Security & permissions” sections. This makes it simple for TikTok users to attach a phone number and email for backup logins. Instead of manually configuring settings, customers may enable two-factor authentication (2FA), passkeys, and biometric login features like face recognition from a single dashboard.
The dashboard shows all devices enrolled into an account, enabling users to immediately cancel access for unrecognized or undesirable devices. Additionally, TikTok will identify any suspicious account behavior for users to analyze.
This is comparable to TikTok’s competitors’ security measures. For instance, Instagram released “Security Checkup” over 4 years ago. TikTok is late, but it’s a nice change.
TikTok also launched a scam-prevention program. The platform now shows educational banners when users search for fraud-related phrases and subjects.
A search for “#FinTok” now displays a banner at the top of the results page. This banner states, “Before following any financial advice, keep in mind that all investments involve risks and consider doing your own research.”
