Magic Laptop Extends Display from Sides
The Infinite Laptop from Taiwanese company Compal stretches horizontally into an ultrawide display. The Infinite Laptop, shown by iFDesign, begins at 14 inches and expands from both sides to produce an 18-inch screen for trading, content production, and other multitasking.
The idea Infinite Laptop won an iF Design Award for its rollable mechanism that expands and contracts. Although ultrawide, its design tries to be lightweight.
The Infinite Laptop, like the 2025 iF Design Award-winning ClinkCaim laptop, lacks a touchpad. Instead, a modest, lighted patch indicates the input region, which minimalist users may find natural.
A system alarm and notification LED array shows on the lid, enabling users to keep informed without opening the device. Though its hardware specs are undisclosed, its ultrawide rollable display fits with current PC manufacturer form factor experiments.
Lenovo’s rollable design expands the screen vertically, whereas Compal’s gives a larger workspace horizontally. Both designs show a rising interest in dynamic laptop screens, which provide flexibility and may increase professional productivity.
The 2025 iF Design Award had approximately 11,000 submissions from 66 countries, with 131 jurors choosing the best concepts. Compal’s Infinite Laptop won, demonstrating that rollable screens—whether vertical or horizontal—are gaining popularity.
