Soon, Google Messages may support WhatsApp video calls.
According to Android Authority, Google is developing a feature that lets users make WhatsApp video conversations from Google Messages, removing the need to switch applications.
Testing, functionality
In an APK breakdown of Google Messages version 20250131, Android Authority’s Assemble Debug activated and tested the new functionality. Google Messages’ video call button calls WhatsApp if both users have it installed. The call should default to Google Meet if the receiver doesn’t have WhatsApp.
Present Limits and Future Growth
This functionality seems to be limited to private conversations. In future versions, reports indicate it may apply to organizations. For video conversations, Google Messages needs both parties to install Google Meet, authenticate into their Google accounts, and utilize an LTE-enabled phone number.
This approach works, but WhatsApp and other video-calling applications make it less efficient.
Possible Launch and Developments
Google hasn’t said when this functionality will be accessible. The corporation may release it in beta to get consumer input. Users may not be able to pick between WhatsApp and Google Meet before calling.
Google might allow internet-based phone calls from Google Messages in addition to video calls.
