Microsoft has leaked specifications and price details for its handheld Xbox console, which is expected to be built by Asus.

Handheld Xbox console rumors have returned, this time with more weight. Asus may be manufacturing Microsoft’s long-rumored mobile gaming gadget, according to The Verge.

Project Kennan codename
Microsoft calls the gadget Project Kennan and partners with Asus, which made the ROG Ally, to produce it, sources told The Verge. Microsoft hopes to put Xbox branding on the portable and connect console and PC gaming, but specifics are still being kept quiet.

Using Windows and AMD Hardware
The software on this next Xbox portable distinguishes it from the Steam Deck. Microsoft is likely to operate the console on Windows with an Xbox-like UI to make navigating simpler for console players.

AMD’s Ryzen Z2 Go CPU drives the device, enabling it to run contemporary games efficiently while saving energy, which is important for portable gaming.

Price and Release
Microsoft is projected to sell Project Kennan between $499 and $599, like other high-end handhelds. Project Kennan is still under development, thus the launch date may vary.
Expanded Strategy

Microsoft’s partnership with Asus may be part of a bigger campaign to add OEMs to Xbox hardware. Like Android, Microsoft may let third parties make Xbox-branded gear instead of inventing one.

Microsoft is taking portable gaming more seriously than ever, and Project Kennan may be the first of multiple Xbox handhelds.
